Organization:
The International Dinosaur Illustration Contest is organized by
Grupo de Etnologia e Arqueologia da Lourinhã (GEAL),
the overseeing institution for Museu da Lourinhã.
Theme
Dinosaurs and other extinct animals.
The illustrations may portray the animals as life-like appearance,
including their natural habitat, or any found fossilized remains.
Prizes:
The prizes are monetary, in the Euro currency.
1st Place 1000 Euros
2nd Place 500 Euros
3rd Place 250 Euros
5 Honourable Mentions 50 Euros each
Jury:
The Jury members are Miguel Telles Antunes (paleontologist),
Fernando Correia (biologist and scientific illustrator),
Nuno Farinha (biologist and scientific illustrator),
Octávio Mateus (paleontologist, organizing committee),
and Simão Mateus (illustrator, organizing committee).
The jury’s decisions are final and can not be appealed.
The jury reserves the right to not awarding one or more of the prizes
if the quality of the submissions justifies it.
The contest will only take place if there is a minimum of ten participants with valid submissions.
Participation:
Any person over 15 years of age, of Portuguese or other nationality may participate.
Artwork identification:
The illustrations must have an accompanying document that clearly
and unequivocally identifies the author and contains the author’s name, age, e-mail,
phone number, and the complete postal address including the country.
The artwork’s title should include the names of the depicted species.
Number of submissions:
Each participant can submit any number of artworks.
Sizes and techniques:
There are no restrictions to the artworks’ size.
All illustration techniques and materials are accepted.
Submitting with the artwork a CD containing a digital version of the artwork
is a positive valuation factor.
Digital imagery:
Digital images must have a minimum definition of 300 dpi, real size, uncompressed.
In addition to the CD a good quality printed copy should be supplied.
These materials will not be returned.
Inadmissible artwork:
Artwork not of scientific nature, namely comics, cartoons and caricatures
will not be admitted to the contest.
In addition, artwork submitted to previous editions of CIID is not admissible.
Art work selection criteria:
The artworks' evaluation is based on their scientific accuracy and on the
quality of the employed techniques.
The following are preference criteria:
Illustrations of Portuguese species Illustrations of species exhibited at Museu da Lourinhã, in particular its holotypes,
namely: Lourinhanosaurus antunesi, Miragaia longicollum, Draconyx loureiroi,
Dinheirosaurus lourinhanensis, Allosaurus europæus and Kuehneodon hahni. Fossil’s illustrations.
Calendar:
- Artwork submission up to April 15, 2011
- Result’s announcement: June 24, 2011
- Artwork exhibition: July and August, 2011
- Returning the artwork: from October 2011 onwards
Sending the artwork:
The artwork may be sent, at the author’s expense, by mail, or delivered
by hand at Museu da Lourinhã.
Artwork sent via e-mail will not be accepted.

Notes:
Returning the artworks:
The artworks will be returned starting in October 2011.
Authors can retrieve them at Museu da Lourinhã or they can be sent by mail.
The organization does not pay for any taxes or insurance nor for any return costs
above €40,00 (Forty Euros).
Reproduction rights:
When submitting artwork the author implicitly accepts the present Regulations
and gives to GEAL - Museu da Lourinhã non-exclusive rights for reproducing the artwork
and advertise the contest, including, but not exclusively, in books, through the
Internet, on promotional materials, editions, publications, museum support and
scientific studies, while GEAL agrees to always reference the author in any
utilization it makes of the artwork.
The author is also implicitly stating that such rights do not, in any form, infringe upon any other rights
